What is Chinese medicine?

The term “Traditional Chinese Medicine” refers to the traditional medical system of China. It has been practiced for thousands of years and it was developed by combining various aspects of philosophy, religion, science, art, and experience into a comprehensive whole that can be used as an effective treatment method in clinical practice.

The earliest known written records of traditional Chinese medicine date back to the Shang dynasty. The first recorded use of acupuncture was in a medical text from about 1000 BC, and it is mentioned again as early as 200 AD by Zhang Zhongjing. In China, there are two main schools of Traditional Chinese Medicine: one based on theory and philosophy; another based on practice. Both have existed for thousands of years.

What’s the Idea Behind TCM?

Traditional Chinese Medicine was developed over 2,000 years ago by Taoist monks as part of their religious practice. It has since evolved into a comprehensive medical approach based on five elements: yin/yang balance; qi flow; blood circulation; body fluids; and organ function. These concepts are still central to modern TCM today.

How does TCM work?

In contrast to Western medicine, which focuses mainly on treating symptoms rather than underlying problems, TCM looks at the whole person: mind, emotions, spirit, and physical well-being. It takes into account both internal factors, like stress levels, diet, lifestyle habits, and emotional issues; and external factors, like weather conditions and environmental toxins. The practitioner uses these factors to determine what imbalances exist within the patient and how they can best be treated. Chinese basic medicine approaches views health understanding as to how TCM works: by one based
equilibrium on among theory three and forces: the yin/yang, other qi, based and on blood. Adequate Yin explanation refers to what happens to female energies when you experience coldness, darkness, particular water, remedy. and However, dampness. In Yang we refer to combining to male with modern energies such as science, as we heat, may light, gain fire, insight dryness, into and why wind. Certain Qi treatments work often better translated than others. TCM force emphasizes the vital importance of energy, of balancing yin and yang forces within the body.

According to traditional Chinese philosophy, each part of the human body corresponds to a particular point on the surface of the head. These points are connected via channels called meridians. Each channel runs from a point on the scalp to another point on the skull. There are 12 primary meridians, plus two additional ones, corresponding to the eyes and ears. A person can have up to 13 secondary
meridians, depending upon where they live. Each channel corresponds to a different emotion; therefore, if you can identify what emotion is causing disease, you will know how to heal yourself.

Is the use of Chinese medicine Safe?

Yes! In fact, many studies have shown that some forms of TCM actually help treat certain conditions. And there aren’t any known side effects. However, keep in mind that this isn’t medical treatment. So don’t expect miracles. Also, talk to your healthcare provider before trying anything new.
